Best Times to Visit Amsterdam

Amsterdam transforms throughout the year. Here's what to expect each season and when to plan your visit for specific activities or photography.

Spring (March - May)

Visit Keukenhof tulip gardens (late March - mid May), photograph blooming canal-side trees, and enjoy sunny terraces. Best for outdoor photography, bike rides, and early morning canal walks.

Summer (June - August)

Long daylight hours (sunrise ~5am, sunset ~10pm) perfect for photography. Outdoor festivals, canal boat tours, and Vondelpark picnics. Busiest tourist season with warm weather.

Autumn (September - November)

Golden leaves in Vondelpark, fewer tourists, cozy café season begins. Great for museum visits (shorter lines), neighborhood walks, and rainy-day photography. Comfortable temperatures.

Winter (December - February)

Christmas markets at Dam Square, ice skating if canals freeze, Amsterdam Light Festival (Dec-Jan). Misty mornings create atmospheric photos. Museums and brown cafés are warm escapes.
